I trained as a primary school teacher, but have always been interested in helping those who face difficulties in learning so when I was given the chance to do a Masters in California, it was an easy choice for me to study Special Education. But my goal in teaching was always to support ALL children in the regular classroom, so during the next few decades, I dedicated my career to teaching young children with a particular interest in teaching children to read. On my return to the UK, I became involved with tutoring, particularly tutoring children with dyslexia and so I retrained as a specialist teacher and assessor for children with dyslexia.

I have been with Dyslexia Network since May, 2018 where I work in a number of schools as a specialist teacher, working one to one with pupils between the age of 6 and 16. I also work as an assessor for the Dyslexia Network. Both these roles give me to the chance to support children who find school difficult; to find ways to help them learn in a more positive way, building their confidence and helping them develop strategies to improve their learning.

What do I enjoy the most - Building the confidence of a learner and helping them realise how many strengths they have.

Greatest Achievement - Earning a Master degree after ‘scraping’ through secondary school.

Proudest Moment - Surviving motherhood – twins + one – 20 months apart and seeing them off to University.

Hobbies - Tennis, running, art.
