Overview
I have been a primary school teacher for 27 years. Through class teaching I became aware of children who had dyslexia and wanted to find the best ways to help them. I studied a Post Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy. Whilst teaching part time at a primary school I also started a part time job with Dyslexia Action in Leeds, teaching children who were struggling with their reading and spelling in main stream schools.
Working with the children in Leeds I realised the importance of identifying dyslexia so that students can gain access to specialist help. I decided to train to become a qualified assessor which led to the completion of my Post Graduate Diploma and gaining my Assessment Practising Certificate.
I continue to teach part time in a local primary school, whilst also working with Dyslexia Network in Harrogate to tutor and assess students. I love the opportunity tutoring gives to get to know a student’s strengths, weaknesses and personality in more depth than is possible in a whole class situation.
