Work Place Needs Assessment
A Work Place Needs Assessment is designed to identify reasonable adjustments that can be implemented to support an employee with dyslexia or specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) at work. It is an ideal option for an employee who may have a hidden disability but does not necessarily have an official diagnosis and would benefit from being provided with some recommendations. Your employee will be interviewed by an experienced Dyslexia Network workplace needs assessor to talk about their specific job role and difficulties that they have. The assessor will consider the working environment and any specific concerns and requirements of the organisation before making recommendations for reasonable adjustments. The assessment takes half a day and includes a full report and also includes a 30-minute post assessment consultation with the line manager and employee.
Work Place Coaching
A short course of coaching can help understand the impact that dyslexia has on an individual. In a work context, strengths can be identified and strategies for weaknesses defined. Once it has been identified which areas an employee needs support with, Dyslexia Network can tailor an appropriate coaching support system to fit the employee’s needs, advising on different support techniques and strategies. Coaching is a proactive way to determine helpful reasonable adjustments in the workplace and could include strategies for time management, memory, organisation, reading skills, spelling, grammar, punctuation, report writing and studying for professional exams to name but a few.
Work Place Needs Package
The WorkPlace Needs Package combines a workplace needs assessment with coaching. The qualified Work Place Consultant will visit the workplace for a half a day to observe the employee and deliver an onsite consultation and 5 hours of coaching on a one to one basis, usually at the Dyslexia Network Centre but could possibly be in the workplace. After the onsite visit, the consultant will provide a Work Place Needs Assessment Report. The package is appropriate when coaching is the required outcome and is more cost effective.
Assistive Technology
Enabling your employees to use Assistive Technology is another method of applying reasonable adjustments. Dyslexia Network can support assistive technology recommendations by explaining the use of software, apps and solutions that may help certain employees with work tasks. We are partners with Text Help - Read and Write Gold and are certified trainers for this software. Our trainers have experience in other technologies and also work alongside other companies to support additional hardware and software technologies that can be helpful to those with hidden disabilities.
